Free/Funded Childcare for 3- and 4-Year Olds







Funding for 3- and 4-year-olds/15 Hours (Universal)

Who?All 3- and 4-year-old children are eligible for 15 hours childcare funding.
When?It is available the term AFTER your child turns 3 years old.
What?Families will receive 15 hours childcare for 38 weeks of the year (term time).
How?This is a universal entitlement for all children. Please talk to your childcare provider to let them know you would like to use these hours.

15 hours funding is available for all 3- or 4-year-old children regardless of parent’s income.

The 15 hours can be used at an Ofsted registered setting such as:

• Private Day Nursery
• Pre-school
• Childminder
• A registered Nanny
• Nurseries attached to schools

You will receive 15 hours of funded childcare for 38 weeks of the year (term time). Some settings will allow you to stretch this funding over the whole year by reducing the weekly hours.
No need to apply, please inform your childcare provider you would like to use this funding.







Funding for 3- and 4-year-olds/30 Hours (Extended)

Who?Most working parents will be eligible for a maximum of 30 hours funded childcare.
When?It is available the term AFTER your child turns 3 years old.
What?Working families will receive an additional 15 hours funding a week on top of the 15-hour universal funding.
How?You will need to apply for the extended hours. You will be issued a code to share with your childcare provider. Click the link to see if you are entitled

Most working families will be eligible for an additional 15-hour funding for their 3/4-year-old, taking their weekly amount up to a maximum of 30 hours.

You and you partner must each expect to earn (on average) at least £167 per week (equal to 16 hours at the national minimum wage), up to £100,000 each.

The 30 hours can be used at an Ofsted registered setting such as:

• Full day care (e.g., Nurseries)
• Schools
• Childminders
• Sessional providers (e.g., Playgroups)
• After school clubs

You will need to apply for the extended hours. You will be issued a code which you need to
share with your chosen childcare provider.
